This work explores the possibility of redefining African Philosophy for
emancipation of Africans from Western Cultural Imperialism. It proceeds from a
consideration of the relevance of African philosophy and the recognition of the
influence of Philosophy generally and African Philosophy in particular on the
human mind both in thinking and knowing. It discusses the relevance of African
Philosophy to the challenge of Western cultural imperialism and the quest to
ultimately build up African culture and civilization. Man, we must note is a
cultural being as well as a cultural builder, who is expected to make cultural
contribution to world civilization. The work begin with clarification of our
working terms, which are, the concept of African Philosophy, emancipation,
culture and imperialism, thereafter, we discuss the relationship between African
philosophy and the issue of cultural emancipation.
